Teacher help
Everything here happens on the Classes tab in Melodash, once you’re signed in as a teacher. Can’t find an answer? Write to support@melodash.com.
1. Your teacher account
Sign in on the Teacher path and request a teacher account. Tell us where you teach (the school or studio, its town, and its phone number or website) and the name your students will see. We check every request by hand before the account opens.
Use your school email address if you have one. It switches on the features that work through your district: login cards, class lists and school reports.
2. Making a class
Type a New class name and choose Create. A new class is a Draft: it has no code, join link or login cards yet, so nobody can join until it has seats. You can set it up first and pay when you’re ready.
Before a district’s students can use Melodash through school, someone who signs for your district signs Melodash’s Student Data Privacy Agreement. You can send it to them from Classes. Until it’s signed, students under 18 join once a parent says yes in Melodash.
3. Seats and prices
A seat lets one student into your classes for up to 12 months. A student in two of your classes uses one seat. Students and families never pay.
| What you’re buying | Price |
|---|---|
| Seats for a new class | $30 a seat, for 12 months from the day they start |
| Seats added later, ending with the class | $2.50 a seat for each month left (part of a month counts as a whole month) |
| Seats added later, for a full year | $30 a seat |
| A new year for the whole class | $2.50 a seat for each month already used (the unused time is credited); new seats $30 |
| School quotes | 10% off 100 seats or more, 20% off 500 or more |
Seats start on the day they’re paid for and last 12 months, never longer. There are no school-year dates. Days are counted in Pacific Time.
4. Paying by card
- On your class, enter how many seats you need (one for each student) and choose Pay by card.
- Pay on Stripe’s secure payment page. Melodash never sees your card number.
- You come back to Classes with your class code ready. Stripe emails your receipt, and Melodash emails you the code.
You can buy up to 500 seats by card at a time. For more, or to pay with a school purchase order, use a quote.
5. Quotes and purchase orders
- On your class, choose Paying by purchase order? Request a quote, then enter the seats and your school office’s email address.
- Melodash emails the office a printable quote from Narralife, LLC (Melodash). Its prices hold for 30 days.
- The office enters the purchase order number on the quote’s page. Your seats start right away, and you get your code.
- Stripe emails the office an invoice, due in 30 days, payable by card or bank transfer.
If the invoice is still unpaid 30 days after the purchase order, the office and you get a reminder. At 60 days the seats pause until it’s paid: the code and login cards stop, and students keep everything they’ve earned. The seats come back the moment the invoice is paid. If payment is on its way, reply to the reminder and we’ll sort it out.
Your office may ask for Melodash’s W-9 or a vendor form. Write to support@melodash.com and we’ll send it.
6. Bringing students in
Once your class has seats, Classes shows four ways in. Use whichever fits your students.
- Class code. Six letters and numbers, easy to read aloud. Students with their own accounts enter it in Connect.
- Join link and QR poster. Copy the link into your class page or email, or choose Print QR poster for the room. A student who opens it signs in and lands in your class.
- Class list. With your district’s agreement, upload a CSV from Google Classroom, Infinite Campus or PowerSchool, or paste school emails. Melodash shows a preview, and nothing is saved until you press Add. Listed students join as they sign in with that address, no code needed. Melodash never emails your students, and keeps each address only in a scrambled form.
- Login cards. For younger students and shared devices, type your private names, one per line, and print. Each card has a QR code and a three-picture password. Send the family letter home with them.
7. Students who are waiting
Some students show up in Classes as waiting, with the reason:
- Waiting for a parent. Without a district agreement, a student under 18 waits until a parent says yes in Melodash.
- Waiting for a seat. Every seat is in use. Add seats, or remove a student who left, then choose Let in.
- Waiting for you. With Only students on my list turned on, anyone not on your class list waits until you choose Let in or Remove.
8. Keeping your code yours
A code only works for the seats you bought, and everyone who joins with it uses one, even if the code was passed around. If that happens:
- Choose New code. The old one stops working at once (print a new poster too; the link changes with the code). Login cards keep working.
- Turn off Students can join with the code once everyone is in.
- Remove anyone who shouldn’t be there. Their seat comes straight back.
- Turn on Only students on my list if you have a class list.
Classes also shows how many tries were turned away because the class was full or the code had ended.
Removing a login-card student deletes that account and everything in it. Students with their own accounts keep them when they leave your class.
9. Adding students later
Choose Add seats. When fewer than 12 months are left, you choose how long the new seats last:
- Until the class’s seats end: $2.50 a seat for each month left. Everyone in the class renews on the same day.
- A full year from today: $30 a seat.
Or choose Start a new year for the whole class: every paid seat restarts today for 12 months, you pay $2.50 a seat for each month already used, and the class gets a new code. Seats Melodash gave you (at launch or for a pilot) keep their own dates.
10. Renewing, and when seats end
Seats never renew or charge you on their own. We email you 30 days and 7 days before a class’s seats end. In those last 30 days, choose Renew by card or request a renewal quote. The new seats start the day the old ones end, so renewing early loses nothing. The new year brings a fresh code, and every student carries over.
If you don’t renew, the class goes back to a Draft: the code, join link and login cards stop working. Students keep their accounts, progress and rewards, and nothing is deleted. Add seats any time and the class comes back, with the same login cards.
11. Refunds
Bought too many seats by card? Unused seats are refunded in full within 30 days of buying them. Write to support@melodash.com from your teacher account’s email address, with the class name and how many seats. The refund goes back to your card. After 30 days, unused seats stay until they end. For a school invoice, write to us and we’ll work it out with your office.
12. Moving or leaving a school
Seats belong to the class they were bought for. If you leave a school, you or the school can ask us to move the class, with its code, seats, students and history, to another approved teacher there. Seats a school bought on a purchase order belong to the school, so we follow the school’s request about them.
The full rules are in section 9 of the Terms of Service.
